Transportation Clerk

I. SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the coordination of daily rail switching and loading operations to ensure all cars reach their destination in a timely manner. The Clerk is responsible for the communication between customers, loaders, crew members, and management to ensure all needs are met for the assigned shift. This position is also responsible for the safe and efficient operations of all crews on duty.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.  The employee frequently is required to sit, stand and walk.  Occasionally employee will be required to stoop, kneel, bend, stand, and walk; use hands to type and handle files; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move light weight materials; walk outdoors on uneven terrain in various weather conditions.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Ability to read and interpret documents.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

E. Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages.

F. Reasoning Ability  

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee works in an industrial office environment (indoor and outdoor). While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, or fumes when in the plant environment.  This incumbent frequently works in an outdoor environment, in various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
